Board directs staff to copy hemp surety-bond tiers into cannabis rules; minimum $5,000 noted

Supervisors asked whether $5,000 represented a legal maximum for surety bonds; during discussion staff and the supervisor who read the hemp ordinance language recommended copying that framework into the cannabis ordinance so the county can require higher bonds where appropriate.
A supervisor read the relevant hemp language aloud: minimum $5,000 for cultivation below 10 acres; $10,000 for cultivation of 10 acres or more; and an additional $1,000 per acre for sites at or above 25 acres. Director Turner agreed to adapt and insert the language and to include the County of Lake as obligee on the bond form. "An applicant shall obtain and provide proof of a current surety bond prior to issuance of permit," staff said during the session.
