Trails committee wins state trail crew support, seeks trails master plan and South Davis Greenway funding

Brent Crowther, 2025 chair of the Trails and Active Transportation Committee, presented the committee’s annual report and thanked staff and volunteers for trail maintenance and engagement. He said volunteers logged more than 200 hours of work and the state trail crew spent a week in June 2025 performing maintenance on the Wild Rose network.
Crowther described a trails master plan funded through an outdoor recreation grant with city matching funds; contracting is near completion and the plan is expected to take about six months once started. One priority the committee expects to recommend is a stronger connection between the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and the Wild Rose network; another is the South Davis Greenway feasibility study — a collaborative effort among four South Davis communities to study a roughly 12‑foot shared‑use path that would connect North Salt Lake to Farmington and that the committee anticipates finishing in summer 2026.
The committee also requested modest ongoing resources for signage, tools and maintenance training, and flagged unsanctioned trail construction (jump lines and unpermitted routes) as a growing issue the city should address through remediation and education. Members noted that a completed master plan will provide prioritized projects and cost estimates necessary to pursue grants and to include trail work in the city budget.
