Board hears first reading of grading and reporting policy updates (IKA, IKAB)

Miss Sals presented proposed updates to policy IKA (grading and assessment) and IKAB (report cards and progress reports) as a first reading. She told trustees the major change in IKA is adopting a 10-point grading scale to replace the prior scale and said the descriptor system for early grades would be updated to labels such as N, P, M and E rather than the old numeric descriptors.
"The 1st and the major 1 is the up update excuse me, updating the grading scale to reflect the 10 grading scale versus the traditional 1 we've used in the past," she said. She also said the term "midterm" will be replaced by "interim reports" and that descriptors will be clarified for Pre-K through grade 2 and for related-arts courses. The board treated the presentation as a first reading; staff said they will return for a second reading and adoption in the coming cycle.
