Dr. Hopkins presented three procurement approvals to the board and explained emergency HVAC work at Clover High School after multiple chiller units could not be reliably repaired. He said engineers are preparing replacement quotes but the lead time for new chillers is about 12 months, so the district has rented two portable chillers to maintain a suitable environment for students.
On the cost, Dr. Hopkins asked trustees to approve installation and rental in an amount not to exceed $264,042, noting an up-front installation/removal fee of roughly $18,000 and an estimated combined monthly rental of about $20,000 for both units. "The approval tonight, is the installation, which has already been done of 2 portable chillers to serve Clover High School and rental until delivery of replacement chillers in an amount not to exceed $264,042," he said. The board approved the request without recorded roll-call detail in the transcript. The district said engineers will continue work on permanent replacement quotes and the rental covers near-term operational needs.
