The Dawson County Planning Commission voted March 17 to recommend approval of a special-use request for Summit Ranch Equestrian Park at 222 Bailey Waters Road and forwarded that recommendation to the Board of Commissioners.
Applicant Brittany Parker said the ranch was created in January 2026, plans to board and train horses and would "max out at 37 horses," and that no new structures would be built. Several residents spoke in favor, describing the operation as a family-like community. Neighbors Laurie and Jay Verhoven opposed the request, citing concerns about potential increases in traffic, noise, and lighting from special events. Community Development Director Richard Osborne told the commission that special events are handled separately and that "events with more than 100 attendees would require this license and that a maximum of 12 such events are permitted per year." After discussion the commission recommended approval by a 3-0 vote (Hornsey/Maloney).
