Board discusses copper-based algaecide, mosquito treatment and homeowner-installed sprinklers in ponds

At the Oct. 15 meeting, resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude sprays into the lakes. District Manager Chuck Adams replied that SOLitude uses "a copper-based product" to target algae and that any odor is a result of algae degasification that lasts a couple of days.
Board members and residents also raised mosquito-control and private sprinkler installations in district lakes. Assistant Secretary Janice Benedetti said a technician treated an area the next day and identified significant issues at one pond. The board discussed whether to notify the community about homeowner-installed sprinklers in lakes and whether maintenance and electricity costs should be covered by individual homeowners or handled case-by-case; no formal policy was adopted at the meeting.
