Board reviews 1Goal pilot and This Works restorative-practices contract before consenting
Summary
The board discussed a proposed 1Goal pilot — two classes per high school over two years aimed at students with GPA about 2.4–3.4 — and a This Works contract to address disproportionality in special-education suspensions; members requested effectiveness data and clarification of selection criteria prior to final approval in the consent agenda.

Superintendent Dyer described a proposed 1Goal partnership to pilot targeted college- and career-readiness cohorts: two classes per high school (one 9th-grade cohort and one 11th/12th cohort, as presented) over two years, with participating students generally having GPA ranges between about 2.4 and 3.4. "They will train our teacher of our choosing and the 1Goal curriculum," Dyer said, adding the organization conducts post-secondary surveys and follows students into the first two years after high school.
Board members also probed a $147,000 line item for a This Works restorative-practices contract aimed at reducing suspension disproportionality for students with disabilities. Members asked for outcome data on restorative practices and evidence of program effectiveness; Dyer said historical results had been presented previously and offered to provide updated figures at the next meeting. The board ultimately placed these items on the consent agenda after discussion.
