Resident urges council to preserve Edinburgh racetrack and ease lease terms

Roberto Cuellar, who identified himself at the podium, urged the council to keep the Edinburgh Racetrack operating and to re-examine the RFP and lease terms that he said discourage operators from making capital investments. Cuellar described the racetrack as a community resource where youth work on cars in a sanctioned environment rather than racing in the street.
“Why does the lessee have to contract ambulance service from the city of Edinburgh? ... It is very hard for anybody to invest money and expect some kind of return,” Cuellar said, asking council members to allow room for negotiation on profit-sharing, sign removal and contract duration. The mayor and city staff thanked Cuellar for his comments; no council action on the racetrack occurred at the meeting.
