Committee advances bill allowing pharmacists to seek voluntary naturopathic licensure

Senator Anthon introduced RS 33404 and his law-student intern, Elizabeth Marshall, who presented the measure and its statutory change. Marshall summarized the proposal: “This legislation amended Idaho Code § 54-5905 to allow pharmacists to seek voluntary dual licensure as a naturopathic doctor.” She said the change would be voluntary and “would not grant any new privileges” beyond current statutory standards.
Senator Wintrow asked for clarification on terminology and the licensing distinctions between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopathic physician; Senator Anthon explained the difference concerned educational degree and licensing structure and reiterated the bill’s voluntary dual-licensure approach. Senator Harris moved to send RS 33404 to print; Vice Chair Bjerke seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. The printed bill will allow additional debate and a formal hearing process.
