Superintendent Dr. Lopeman opened the meeting by celebrating Monday's official opening of the Alma Ferrell Innovation Academy and welcoming the Ferrell family and community members to the campus. She said student-led tours "gave everyone a chance to experience the school through the eyes of our future trailblazers" and called the event "a great morning."
Dr. Lopeman also announced that Maricopa Unified School District "has earned accredited status from Cognia Global Commission," calling the recognition "an internationally recognized distinction that reflects our commitment to continuous improvement." She credited educators, staff, administrators and board members for the work that led to the distinction and framed the accreditation as validation of district systems and classroom practices as the district prepares for the 2026–27 school year.
