District outlines bond project concepts and timeline for Falcon, high school and junior high

Rick Champion, the district's assistant superintendent of business services, presented concept drawings and a proposed timeline for multiple Measure H bond projects, including the Falcon project, improvements to the high-school path of travel and an expanded aquatics center.
Champion described the color-coded timeline for program design, design development, DSA submission and construction, and said the district estimates construction for Falcon to start in August 2027 with an expected delivery in January or February 2029. He also said the district will publish an RFQ/RFP for a lease-leaseback contractor, expect a prequalification step and anticipates receiving a dozen to two dozen submittals. "So we're about midpoint through the summer," Champion said, and he emphasized the district's dependence on the Division of the State Architect (DSA) schedule for permits and submittals.
Champion noted the junior-high concept favors single-story buildings to reduce elevator costs and improve supervision and described an interim housing plan using a blacktop area for temporary classrooms during construction. Staff said updated project visuals and detailed timelines would be posted to the district website and reviewed again at future board meetings.
