DRB approves carport in Flood Hazard Overlay with floodproofing review to DEC

Applicants described an open 34-by-26 carport with slats on the back wall for tools and an enclosed section that will include FEMA‑approved flood vents. Staff (AZ Larsen) reported there is no FEMA base flood elevation (BFE) for this FHO zone; as a result, accessory structures may be wet‑proofed rather than elevated above an unspecified BFE. AZ Larsen said a floodproofing letter dated April 2, 2026 was included in application materials and will be forwarded to Kyle Medash of DEC for the additional information he requested; Mr. Medash had indicated he could approve the plans once he received that information. The motion to approve the carport application passed unanimously.
The approval requires staff to send the April 2, 2026 floodproofing letter to DEC and for the applicant to abide by the wet‑proofing measures outlined in the submitted materials.
