Fenton aldermen keep original seeding plan for Bud Weil Park playground

The City of Fenton Board of Aldermen on June 25 agreed to proceed with the original plan to seed the playground area at Bud Weil Park rather than approve a change order to install sod.
Mayor Joe Maurath introduced the special meeting to consider a contractor proposal to place sod on three sides of the playground at a cost of $27,327, compared with the originally budgeted seed-and-straw approach at $2,700. Maurath told the Board he felt "seeding is the best option" and said "the cost difference could be utilized elsewhere," framing the choice as a fiscal trade-off.
Alderman John Lange asked whether both options would require one month of watering and expressed concern that sod could fail if hot weather extends beyond the contractor's one-month watering period. Alderwoman Brittany Huels noted that one month of watering for July only would cost about $8,000 and that if August proved hot the City could be responsible for additional watering beyond the contractor's coverage. Alderman Maserang and Alderwoman Jokerst suggested delaying installation until the fall or using mulch as a temporary measure to improve establishment prospects.
After the discussion Alderman Lange and Alderman Wisbrock voiced support for sticking with the original seeding plan. For the record, Mayor Maurath stated that "it was the Board's desire to proceed with the original project with seeding," and there were no objections from the Board.
With no other business, Alderwoman Huels moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded by Alderman Wisbrock, a voice vote passed unanimously, and the meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m. City Clerk Jane Hungler attested to the minutes.
