She said seniors at a local high school presented welcome gifts to kindergarteners as part of a "Welcome to the Herd" program that ties into the county's anti-bullying grant work and that the office has provided light shampoo and other toiletries to the Ashland School. "We provide light shampoo to the Ashland School," the presenter said. She also described providing gloves for school cleaning projects to reduce exposure to chemicals and germs.
The presenter urged community members to donate personal-hygiene items for older children and laid out logistics for the county's Christmas Joy assistance drive: bulk mailings went out on the 21st, registrations are due on the 11th, and gift and food-basket pickups are scheduled for the 20th. She reported that last year the program served 22 families and 68 children and said she expects higher participation this year. Volunteers such as Sue Westac and Shelly Friess were singled out for helping the program run from start to finish.
