A finance presenter told commissioners the county is seeing roughly $170,000 in operational increases across departments for FY27 and that public works has additional needs in the neighborhood of $300,000.
The presenter said much of the public-works amount may be covered by SRS funding that was not expected last year. Commissioners discussed options to free up general-fund dollars for wage increases, including using one-time PIL dollars for capital or IT transitions such as moving to a cloud version of a county system. One commissioner suggested repurposing one-time funds for one-time expenses to preserve general-fund capacity for ongoing wage and operational commitments.
The presenter cautioned that some departments still have pending CIP requests and that the approximate totals could change as departments finalize plans. Commissioners agreed to continue detailed budget workshops to review department-level asks before final decisions.
