Commissioners keep SRS allocation at 85/15 for SFY27

Commissioners reviewed the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) funding allocation options for state fiscal year 2027 and agreed to continue the previous allocation split of 85% to county needs (roads and schools) and 15% for required forest-service projects. Staff explained that federal guidance limits the county’s ability to take more than 85% under the current options and that continuing the status quo avoids additional complications while the county searches for a new finance director.
Public Works staff noted the county historically used an 85/15 split and that the commission could revisit allocations after consulting finance staff. Commissioner Vermillion moved to continue allocations at the same level and sign the SRS election and allocation form for SFY 2027; the commission approved the motion by voice vote.
