Putney Community Cares announced that it has secured a $15,000 AARP grant to perform a pedestrian walk audit on Old Route 5 and Kimball Hill Road, the group’s representative told the Selectboard June 24. Ruby McAdoo said the grant funds must be expended before the end of the calendar year and that the award requires no municipal cash match because in-kind contributions satisfy the match requirement.
"We plan three meetings in July (1, 15 and 29) to scope pedestrian improvements and traffic calming measures," McAdoo said, asking the Town to participate. Planning Commission Chair Sue Coakley noted the timing aligns with the Comprehensive Village Plan and that the Windham Regional Commission has already done traffic studies that could inform implementation. The Selectboard discussed sign placement, crosswalk design, and enforcement options with Highway Superintendent Lenny Howard and residents.
