Students tell board their summit was student-led and boosted 'student voice'

Student Advisory Council (SAC) leaders told the board about a January student voice summit they organized for students from several district schools, saying the event was student-led at every step — from check-in to breakout sessions and Q&A. "We had a bunch of different breakout rooms where we would discuss how we kind of created it," a SAC lead said, describing peer-to-peer sessions where students asked and answered questions.
Students and staff emphasized that the summit allowed young people to practice leadership and voice. One student told the board, "Student voice is so important to have. If they don't, then what are we even doing here?" Students said the event will help other schools adopt a replicable student-voice model and encouraged the board to support more student-led initiatives and to consider student input in future decisions.
Board members praised the event, noting strong hospitality and organization. SAC leaders said they plan to recruit new members as seniors graduate and hope to expand the program and repeat the summit next year.
