Coaches and student leaders described steady growth in Grandview’s Unified Sports program, which revived after COVID and has expanded to middle school and track events. A presenter credited staff and community volunteers with rebuilding the program and said Grandview “has really, become the leader in unified sports” in the eastern half of the state.
The speaker noted the program’s recent results: a 2nd-place finish at Unified Basketball state in 2023, fourth place in 2024, and the launch of a unified track team in 2025 that fielded 18 athletes and partners with nine state qualifiers. The presenter also highlighted a state champion in unified shot put and a state record for the partnership. Students and assistant coaches onstage described the personal and social benefits of unified participation for athletes and partners, emphasizing friendships and leadership development.
Board members and attendees praised the program’s volunteers and supporters and recognized student leaders who will receive district awards this spring.
