The Streetlights & Signs committee suggested designating the area around the downtown Square a Historic District and exploring code changes with Planning & Zoning to permit vintage-style signage. The minutes specifically mention Laredo's, Water Street Church and the Child Advocacy sign as examples; one community member reportedly offered to fund a vintage-style replacement for Laredo's sign.
Separately, the Streets & Bridges committee reported a recurring problem with a street light that needs additional work beyond regular bulb replacement. Council did not record a formal vote on the historic-district idea during the June 23 meeting; staff and P&Z will be asked to examine possible code changes and designs.
