The Litchfield Advanced Technology Commission said it is moving to standardize internet service across town facilities and aims to have all facilities on fiber by the end of the summer. Chair John Bongiorno reported that gathering information on town facilities’ internet connectivity is “75% complete,” and the commission reiterated a goal of redundant connectivity for Level 1 sites.
The commission listed specific facilities to include in the plan and assigned level designations, naming the New Ambulance Facility, Public Works, Town Beach, Community Field, WPCA, Town Hall, Northfield Fire Department (NFD), Litchfield Fire Department (LFD), East Litchfield Fire Department (ELFD), Bantam Fire Department (BFD), and Bantam Annex. John Bongiorno said he will issue a work order to connect Litchfield Fire to CEN to achieve redundancy and noted Frontier and CEN are essentially the same provider, so a CEN2 service is needed for true redundancy.
The commission directed staff to review phone, cable and transport bills across town facilities to identify efficiencies, and to include dual‑internet goals for Level 1 sites and single internet for non‑Level 1 sites in the plan. The timeline for fiber by the end of summer and any required external approvals were discussed as implementation targets, and the commission assigned follow‑up tasks including specific work orders and an inventory‑driven standardization effort to guide procurement.
