Highway supervisor warns contractor won’t fulfill salt contract; town may curb use

Allen Wight, Highway Supervisor, told the Selectboard that the contractor supplying road salt for the 2025–2026 season informed the Town it will not be able to fulfill its contract, and the Town is seeking alternative suppliers.
"The contractor has told us they cannot fulfill their salt contract for the winter season," Wight reported. He said he has reached out to another contractor for pricing and availability and that the town may need to modify salt usage if deliveries are delayed. The board recorded no formal action but noted the potential operational impacts on winter road maintenance.
Wight also reported routine operational items: trees marked for removal have been taken down and a disabled truck is expected to be repaired by morning. He said he has not yet erected signage limiting public access to the Highway Department sand pile but that prior resident communications have reduced unauthorized access.
