The City Council adopted a resolution approving side letter agreements to clarify language in the current and previous memoranda of understanding with the Galt Police Officers Association so compensation reported for pension purposes complies with CalPERS rules. Human Resources Director Tricia Coby said the change is a clarification driven by a CalPERS compliance review and does not create any new compensation. "These side letters do not create any new compensation or increase employee pay," Coby said.
Coby told council the clarifications will protect the city from potential liability related to pension reporting for two GPOA retirees and reduce risk that eligible compensation could be excluded from pension calculations. The council approved the resolution by roll call 4–0.
