The commission debated a large request from the transfer station for $63,500 in additional appropriations. The original request listed $25,000 for a manager, $35,000 for disposal fees, and $3,500 for utilities. Commissioners raised concerns about current balances and monthly income trends, and discussed whether to approve the full amount or a partial appropriation to reduce county exposure.
After discussion the board agreed to a compromise partial appropriation totaling $31,075: $18,075 directed to the manager line, $11,500 to disposal fees and $1,500 to utilities. Commissioner Collins made the motion to split the appropriation as proposed and the motion was seconded and approved by unanimous vote. Chair asked staff to monitor the fund closely and return to the agenda if spending trends require additional action.
Commissioners said the transfer station has seen lower disposal costs year-over-year but noted new scales and a second compactor that may change future receipts. The partial appropriation is intended to carry the department through the immediate months while staff assess trends and return with further recommendations.
