The cemetery board told commissioners it had four applicants for a summer position but the two finalists declined the job offers, leaving the board to restart the hiring process.
Board member John (speaker S10) said the board would like to pursue a part-time hire and suggested increasing hourly pay to attract applicants. “We had 4 applications, we narrowed it down to 2 people. Neither one of them took the job we offered,” the board representative said, noting that one person kept commitments and one did not.
Commissioners and board members discussed safety concerns about a single worker in remote areas and agreed the hiring process must follow required procedures, with staff to advertise the position and the board to proceed with recruitment. The board said Richard has been keeping the grounds mowed but weed control has lagged where a single worker cannot cover all areas.
