Belinda Ellis, who said she runs the Galt Cemetery, told the Galt City Council during public comment that the cemetery will stop allowing 24-hour walk-ins and will keep gates open only from dawn until dusk starting Oct. 1 because of repeated vandalism. "We're going to be closing our our gates will be open from dawn until dusk due to the fact we've had a great deal of vandalism in the cemetery," she said.
Ellis said security patrols and the police department have been involved and that a no-trespass order is in effect; she also said the cemetery will notify local media and update signage and social media. "The police department has been amazing," Ellis said, adding she expects the situation to ease over time but that it is "going to be ugly for a little bit."
