City staff told the Council on April 1 that the City created a reimbursement grant program to offset safety costs for businesses within a half‑mile of the homeless shelter. Project & Policy Manager Erinn Summers said the mitigation funding provides ten grants of $20,000 each; nine grants are signed or in process and reimbursements are beginning to be submitted.
"Most of the grants are being used for security cameras, lighting, fencing, and signage," Summers said. She added that one of the grants will move to Landmark Grill at its new location (the site formerly occupied by Sweet Hazel). Mayor Dustin Gettel and Council Member Paul Glover expressed support; Glover said business owners had told him they are grateful for the assistance. The City reported one grant went to legal review and was approved and that remaining applications are in varying stages of execution.
Staff did not read individual applicant names or total paid reimbursements into the public record at the meeting; Council asked staff to continue administering the program and to provide updates on executed reimbursements.
