Council renews 2025 fireworks restriction map for hazardous river and park areas
Summary
Midvale approved Resolution 2025-R-19 to carry forward 2024 fireworks restrictions in identified hazardous areas (Jordan River corridors, listed parks, and Jordan Bluffs neighborhoods) consistent with state code requirements.
City staff and Unified Fire Authority representatives advised the council that state law limits municipal fireworks restrictions to identified hazardous areas and requires annual reevaluation. Based on elevated fire risk along the Jordan River, in several Midvale parks, and in the Jordan Bluffs neighborhood, staff recommended maintaining the restricted area approved in 2024.
Council Member Heidi Robinson moved to suspend rules and adopt Resolution No. 2025-R-19 establishing the 2025 fireworks restriction map; the motion passed unanimously with Council Member Bryant Brown absent. Staff said boundaries were drawn along identifiable features (roadways) where hazardous conditions did not follow a single geographic line, consistent with State Code §15A-5-202.5.
