Council approves early second payment to renewable energy agency to gain voting membership

The council approved Resolution No. 2025-R-21 to make an early second payment of $10,942.10 to the Community Renewable Energy Agency, enabling Midvale to become a voting member earlier than otherwise allowed. Erinn Summers reviewed the Agency’s membership path, which requires signing interlocal and utility agreements and two payments of roughly $11,000 each; council had previously approved the first payment in 2024.
Summers said the Agency’s program design filing with the Utah Public Service Commission foresees participating customers seeing a monthly cost increase of roughly $3–$4 for renewable energy service, with the average participating residential customer estimated at $3.21 per month. Council voted to suspend the rules and approve the second payment conditional on Agency policy amendments that would allow Midvale early voting rights.
