Public works outlines street maintenance plan as Class C and transportation tax funds rise

"This fund also carries a balance...Those funds can also be used to pay for larger projects," public works staff said, adding that class C and transportation tax receipts bring about $750,000 a year and staff planned to spend available operational funds on striping, crack sealing, thermoplasty, and small projects they can perform in‑house. Council members asked whether pedestrian lights or hawk signals could be funded from these sources; staff said the choice depends on whether a project can be bundled into an existing CIP or drawn from the road fund.
The presentation also covered planned rebuild of a salt/sand shed destroyed in a storm and modest facility improvements for public‑works staff; councilors asked staff to prioritize Mill Creek and 400 East for traffic‑calming work as those corridors face increasing multi‑modal demands.
