Leslie Field, the district’s director of student services, told the board she hopes to revitalize space in the Student Services Building as a teen center with a kitchen, laundry, showers and donated prom dresses to support students across the district.
"We are really hoping to, revitalize our back room in the Student Services Building as a new teen center that will have a full kitchen, a laundry facility, and also be able to house like all the prom dresses that have been donated," Field said, describing plans for a hub that would serve students and the district’s new 18–22 program in a nearby portable.
Field also summarized counseling data projects and school-level outcomes used to tie counseling interventions to school improvement plans. She cited examples: Morgan Middle’s use of a wellness room led to an 80% increase in use of targeted skills, and the Connection Center served 161 students this year with staff-measured improvements. Board members asked how the center operates; Field said timed, non-counseling check-ins are used as a reset and frequent users are referred to counselors for additional support.
