Commissioners ask staff for in-depth briefings on new state laws as comp plan rewrite begins
Summary
A commissioner asked staff for a deeper review of recent state laws (including Act 68 and a 1973 statute referenced) and staff said the village will pair a review of these changes with a signed contract to begin rewriting the comprehensive plan later this year.

A plan commissioner requested that staff provide a more in-depth presentation on several new state laws that affect local planning, including Act 68 and another statute referenced in the meeting. The commissioner said the earlier high-level summary was insufficient and asked for each law to be reviewed in more detail during a future meeting or a separate session.
Sam, planning staff, said the village has a signed contract to begin rewriting the comprehensive plan with a consultant (contract start later this year) and that staff will include state-law changes as part of that broader process. "We do have a signed contract to begin rewriting the village's comprehensive plan with sewer pack starting later this year," Sam said, and staff committed to returning with more in-depth materials in a few months to coincide with the comp plan rewrite schedule. Commissioners agreed this timing would be useful, noting one law has an October effective date and others take effect at the start of the next year.
