Sioux Rapids council approves new sheriff contract for police protection

Mayor Jim Wise called the Sioux Rapids City Council to order at 6:30 p.m. and members moved quickly to a proposed police protection contract submitted by the county sheriff. Joel McCoy moved to accept the contract, and the motion carried unanimously.
City Clerk Amanda Caraway recorded the vote as "Ayes: all; Nays: none." The contract covers $50,000 for the remainder of 2024 and establishes a $80,000 contract amount for the following year. The council did not record additional discussion or dissent during the meeting. The council set no further conditions when approving the agreement.
