The Steamboat Rock City Council moved July 13 to begin the formal process for a water and sewer surcharge intended to offset the cost of upcoming utility projects. Council member Kevin Pieters made the motion to move forward; Marc Havens seconded and the motion carried.
Council members said the surcharge will require three readings before the council votes on a resolution to adopt it. No dollar amount or effective date for the surcharge was specified in the minutes. The item was recorded under old business and will return to the agenda for subsequent readings and a final vote.
