Police report shows June calls up and increased ebike and golf cart enforcement

Eric Grimes of the Westfield Police Department reported June calls for service increased to 2,219 from 1,795 the prior June, a rise of 424 calls. Grimes attributed part of the increase in citations to targeted enforcement of ebike and golf cart rules and said the department issued 31 tickets and 7 warnings for ebike violations and 17 tickets and 25 warnings for golf cart violations this year.
Grimes also detailed personnel changes: Officer Trump was assigned as the new violent crimes detective, Officer Tansey completed field training and is on solo patrol, and Officer McCarthy was certified June 1 with canine "Aussie" in narcotics and tracking to place a patrol dog on every shift. He noted the department partnered with Carmel for a July 1 enforcement action on the Monon and emphasized public outreach on ebike class distinctions.
