Board hears district goals, considers five‑year strategic plan

The Gloucester Township Board of Education reviewed three district goals proposed by the superintendent that would guide the district’s priorities for the coming years. Superintendent Bilodeau outlined a repeat target for measurable student achievement growth, the district’s continuing effort to house all preschool students in a dedicated facility, and a proposal to develop a five‑year strategic plan that would set measurable objectives for staff, parents and the community.
"Student achievement, by some measured increment," Bilodeau said while summarizing the academic‑growth goal, and he described the preschool building as a district priority under active discussion with an architect. Dr. Lori Bandlow, representing New Jersey School Boards, recommended embedding the work in an action plan with clear check‑ins. "Having a 5 year strategic plan is the best way in getting it going to get folks both in and out of the community involved," Bandlow said.
Board members pressed for specificity, asking that communication and parent‑engagement objectives be embedded with accountable timelines rather than remain broad statements. Bandlow and several trustees recommended a strategic‑planning dashboard and an action‑plan template to track year‑by‑year progress and suggested breaking multi‑year goals into 1‑, 3‑ and 5‑year milestones.
The board asked Bandlow to draft revised goal language and the action‑plan template so members can refine targets and accountability steps before a future vote. The administration will circulate revised language for committee review and potential inclusion in the formal strategic‑planning process.
