The mayor administered oaths of office for a slate of emergency-service officers and municipal appointees during the meeting’s ceremonial portion. Fire Chief Charles Anders and Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Riley each recited the oath and were congratulated from the dais. The council also swore in other emergency-response officers and noted long family traditions for some appointees.
In municipal business the council nominated Councilman Bill Boyce as council president for 2025 and approved the nomination by roll call. The mayor announced a slate of committee assignments and standing appointments for the coming year (planning board representatives, environmental and recreation commission members, staff appointments such as DPW foremen, municipal prosecutor and other municipal officers). The council discussed the length of appointments for commissions (recreation five-year terms, planning board one year for mayoral appointee) and scheduled further discussion where members wanted changes to term lengths.
The swearing-in and appointments are ceremonial and administrative actions that set leadership and committee responsibilities for 2025; items requiring policy or fiscal action remain for subsequent meetings and the budget process.
