Referendum-funded CTE facilities and new pathways highlighted for Beaufort County schools

District CTE director Karen Gilbert outlined how referendum-funded construction will expand hands-on training space and enable new pathways at multiple high schools. She said a new health sciences wing is under construction and that the referendum will add dedicated building-trades facilities at Bluffton and Beaufort high schools as well as upgraded welding, automotive and marine technology labs.
Gilbert described program-level plans that pair facility upgrades with employer partners and college partners such as Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL). "We will have a public safety firefighter program and eventually add an EMT focus," she said, and noted drone technologies and cybersecurity are now state-approved pathways the district is expanding. She said Bluffton High School will pilot an artificial intelligence program next year and the district plans to phase other pilots to the other high schools once proven.
