Boy Scout pitches Eagle Scout flag-retirement box; council votes to sponsor project

Jackson Weaver asked the council for permission to install a retired-flag drop box at the borough Department of Public Works as part of his Eagle Scout project. "I'm Jackson Weaver, and I'm a live scout with the, blue scout troop 1 32. I'm currently working on my Eagle Scout project," he told the council and offered paperwork from the 3 Rivers Council.
Council members asked about the proposed location near the clothing recycle area and whether the project would include a permanent plaque; councilmember Boyse moved to sponsor the project, saying the box "should last outlast us," and the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Council members also suggested involving the veterans committee in a dedication and asked the scout to provide expected collection start dates; Weaver said he aimed to have the box ready to collect flags by 06/14/2025.
The council recorded no public opposition. The sponsorship provides municipal support and permission for placement at the DPW, and council members said they expect veterans and the borough's volunteer organizations to participate in a formal retirement ceremony once the box is installed.
