Board adopts Pea Ridge small‑area plan and forwards comments on several city annexations

The Cherokee County Board unanimously adopted the Pea Ridge Community Small Area Plan after a presentation by Planning Director Ms. Long and staff partners. The plan, developed with the Atlanta Regional Commission and community stakeholders, includes recommendations on preservation, housing, trails, access, and anti‑gentrification measures.
Separately, staff reviewed multiple city annexation proposals from Canton, Ball Ground and others. Commissioners discussed traffic and access improvements, potential creation of annexation “islands,” and requested that staff forward recommended conditions to the cities. For one Ball Ground annexation, the board asked staff to request the city consider intersection upgrades (a widened signal or roundabout) at the Bojangles intersection to handle increased traffic.
The board also asked that canton and city applicants revise specific site elements (remove small parcels that create islands and revise access roads) before final city consideration; staff will transmit the county’s comments to the cities.
