The Golden Shores undergrounding project remains on hold after the June meeting because the IAM Electric item did not receive a second, the city manager told the commission during a workshop update. "It didn't get a 2nd, so it didn't move forward. For that reason, the project is completely on hold," the city manager said, noting recent outages in the neighborhood.
Staff outlined options including proceeding with the second bidder (whose hourly rate the manager said is "a little bit more than twice" the first bidder's rate), deferring the project six to 12 months, or adding the item to the evening agenda and suspending the three-month deferral rule with a supermajority. Commissioners living in Golden Shores expressed concern about outages and hurricane season impacts and supported returning the item to the evening agenda. Mayor Svachin and multiple commissioners indicated they would likely have the required votes to add it to tonight—s meeting, subject to a supermajority vote where needed.
What happens next: staff said they will place the Golden Shores undergrounding project on the evening agenda for potential action; the commission did not adopt a contract that afternoon.
