The Human Capital and Talent Office asked the board to approve a student-teacher affiliation agreement with the University of Connecticut for the 2026–27 school year. "Pending tonight's approval, we'll host 5 student teachers from UConn for the 2627 school year," said Jen Marino, and she noted UConn will pay a $450 stipend to cooperating teachers, up from $350 in the prior contract.
Board members asked how cooperating teachers are identified and whether mentor qualification requires additional coursework. Superintendent Doctor Schwartz and Marino explained the TEAM (Teacher Education and Mentoring) induction program is state-mandated and that cooperating teachers function as mentors who typically must have experience and principal recommendation; the district runs local TEAM facilitators who manage mentoring but additional certification beyond district procedures is not required and is provided at no cost to the district.
The board moved to collect further background on some administrative questions but indicated general support for the program as a way to place student teachers and support teacher pipelines.
