Board authorizes letter of intent for districtwide fine-arts facility grants

The board authorized district fine-arts staff to submit a letter of intent to pursue philanthropic grant funding to upgrade fine-arts facilities across middle schools and certain high-school clusters. Mister Bogarza presented enrollment and facilities data showing growth: more than 6,500 MISD students participate in fine arts and band/orchestra programs serve over 2,000 students; projected growth of 20–25% in participation was cited.
Bogarza outlined preliminary budgets and drawings for Alamo, Abel, Goddard, San Jacinto and other campuses and said renovations and additions would address aging infrastructure, inadequate rehearsal and storage space and poor acoustics. "Tonight, I respectfully request that the board authorizes Midland ISD Fine Arts to submit a letter of intent should the opportunity become available," Mr. Bogarza said.
Trustees asked about ongoing operational costs and instrument funding; staff noted prior philanthropic grants had supplied significant instrument upgrades and estimated added annual utilities and maintenance for the additional square footage. The board voted unanimously to authorize the letter of intent and to move forward with planning and philanthropic outreach.
