The City of New Ulm City Council on July 21 approved a series of routine permits and event requests, set a bid date for an infrastructure project, and authorized two grant actions.
Council President Becker opened the meeting and the consent agenda was adopted by voice vote. The council passed individual resolutions approving a noise-variance for an amplified-music event on Thompson Street (08/29–08/30/2026); lawful-gambling permits for the Friends of the Brown County Free Fair (08/13 and 08/15/2026) and the New Ulm Baseball Association (12/20/2026); and a tree-service license renewal for CTS Construction and Tree Service LLC for 07/22/2026–06/30/2027.
The council set the bid opening for the Junior Pioneer Park water-main crossing for 10 a.m. on Aug. 26, 2026 and directed staff to return with bid results and a contract recommendation at the first September meeting. Council also authorized the New Ulm Police Department to apply for a Toward Zero Deaths traffic-enforcement grant for calendar-year 2027 and approved submission of a redevelopment grant application to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) on behalf of applicant Paul Niers for an estimated $464,508 (with at least a 50% match expected to be covered by TIF or tax abatement).
Director Jorgensen conducted roll calls for items that required recorded votes; for listed roll-call items the five voting council members (Councilors Christian, Warmka, Schmitz, Mack and President Becker) voted yes. The council adjourned into a work session when no further business remained.
