Mayor Reggie Burgess told the council that funding for several proposed projects is contingent on voter approval of a 0.5-cent sales tax on the November ballot. "You have to vote yes. You have to vote yes. It is critical that we vote yes to extend that sales tax," Burgess said during the meeting.
Earlier in the meeting a council member publicly recognized Charleston County council members Teddy Pryor and Henry Darby and others for their assistance in securing funding for a proposed Soundbury sound wall, saying the material support demonstrates a commitment to improving quality of life for residents living alongside the interstate. Council members discussed ensuring that affected neighborhoods receive equitable attention and one member said they would "stand with you" to find funds for additional walls where needed.
The mayor also read a letter of appreciation for City employee Chef Wright from a local congregation and the council observed moments of silence for former representative Chris Murphy. The meeting then adjourned.
