The board member noted that Tom Denver met with the Illinois Department of Commerce on a proposed $3,000,000 grant to extend the City of Rochelle Railroad deeper into Lee County as part of an estimated $6,000,000 project; the DCEO portion would be about $3,000,000 and the city of Rochelle would be expected to provide the other $3,000,000. The development, if realized, would open roughly 600–800 acres to rail access, the member said. The member also noted an Opportunity Zone designation decision expected in August for a South Dixon Township area that could affect development prospects.
