The subcommittee opened its substantive work by reviewing the charge established in Resolution 2026-12, which the reader said "resolves that the town council by establishes a town council board and commissions review subcommittee consisting of 3 members of the town council and charges it with making recommendations for consolidation and or elimination eliminating inactive or duplicative, town boards and commissions." The reader attributed the resolution to an earlier council action passed on Feb. 10.
Staff walked members through the packet materials, explaining that the office has tracked boards and commissions since 2007 and flagged entries that appear inactive. Members discussed the difference between bodies created by ordinance (which require repeal to remove) and those created by resolution (which the council can rescind more easily), and agreed to start with clear cases of disbandment before moving to consolidation options.
