Altamont staff report on emergency response, recent fires, utility repairs and pool opening

City Administrator reports at the May 28 meeting covered a range of operations: attendance at the State of Kansas 2027 budget meeting in Iola; review of sidewalk plans with KDOT and Schwab Eaton; ongoing updates to the emergency response plan; and work with the auditor to close the 2025 audit. The fire report listed 3 medical calls, 1 structure fire, 1 electric line fire and 1 wildland fire; a brush truck was sent to Western Kansas to assist with the Ashland wildfires as part of the Southeast Wildfire Task Force mutual-aid response and FEMA approved payment for the AFG grant. Utility staff described several maintenance items, including washing a sewer main, replacing approximately 25 feet of collapsed sewer main between Wabash and Wells, replacing a broken electric pole at 306 E. 10th Street, and completing pool painting and filling (the pool was filled on 05/19/26). Several safety and equipment repairs were also listed.
