City staff and the fire department reported on recent public-safety and recreation activities at the July 9 council meeting. The Altamont Fire Department hosted a July 3 fireworks display coordinated with J&M Displays; staff provided required paperwork to David Sproul for an inspection through the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office.
City Administrator Myers reported that the second session of swimming lessons began July 6 with 33 children enrolled. The fire department recorded three medical calls and one grass fire since the last report, and the department noted the fireworks display as a public-relations event.
Utility staff reported multiple storm-related electrical repairs including replacing a fuse on a three-phase bank cut-out and replacing a transformer and lightning arrestor after storms June 25–26, plus routine mowing, ditch work and equipment maintenance. Staff also assisted with installing a sound system at the Altamont swimming pool.
