The Altamont Fire Department reported two medical calls, one vehicle fire and one motor-vehicle collision during the reporting period; the department also noted that it was not awarded the PACF grant for a cascade system and awaits a decision on a Sinise Foundation grant. Assistant Chief Hayward confirmed grant paperwork and vendor coordination are complete for the fireworks vendor.
The police department reported numerous responses including animal control, civil standbys, child exchanges and welfare checks. Enforcement counts in the period included five speed warnings, five stop-sign warnings, one taillight warning, one headlight warning and two citations for driving without insurance. Officers assisted the sheriff’s office and the Kansas Highway Patrol with a drone search for a person wanted on felony warrants. Chief Shields and other officers attended recent training; an order was placed for new ballistic vests and carriers.
